There are few things that are healthier than fruits and vegetables – in fact, I can’t really think of anything! The one drawback with having a smoothie a day is that it is really easy to overdo it with the fruit and get a (natural) sugar high. Adding vegetables to your smoothies is a great way to balance that out, decrease the sweetness, and increase the health factor!
Leafy greens are amazing. They are an excellent source of folate (super important for the brain) and iron (super important for energy), but can easily get a little boring with the same old salad. Adding them to smoothies is an amazing way to get one more helping in a novel way!
This recipe has a bit of everything that we need – carbohydrates (fruits and veg), protein (hemp hearts), and fat (coconut oil). Making sure to have all three of these macronutrients in a meal will make sure that it is well balanced and will provide energy for a long time. It will also ensure that all vitamins can be absorbed by the body as well! Who doesn’t love that??
Superfood Kale Smoothie
- 1 cup of kale
- 1 cup of coconut water (or filtered water)
- 1 small apple (no seeds)
- 1 small pear
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp coconut oil

This one is great because it’s got a vibrant green colour that just looks like health in a jar/bottle/glass – whatever you choose to put it in!
Health on the go pro tip: Freeze a green smoothie in a cooler when going camping. It keeps the food cold and will slowly thaw for the next day!
Bonus Smoothie – Healthy doesn’t mean it can’t be delicious!!! Who’s likes Red Velvet??
